Call us today to discuss the appropriate level of salary for your nanny.
As a top London and European nanny agency for professional British and Bilingual nannies we are always asked by our families what rate or salary they can expect to pay for a good nanny. We place nannies into jobs in London, Europe and world-wide on a daily basis, so we see what rates and salaries are being agreed. It’s fair to say that families often pay a little more than they were initially budgeting for. However, this is because when presented with an average nanny, asking for a salary of X, or a great nanny asking for a slightly higher salary of Y, they see the value difference and find that the better skilled nanny offers their family more value in the long term.
Factors affecting nanny salaries offered include:
- Experience required
- Qualifications required
- Number of children to be cared for
- Ages of the children
- Total hours of work per week
- Requirement to travel (away from family and friends) with the employers
- Driving skills required
- Proficiency in 1 or more specified languages
- Location
- Passport or visa held.
- Additional skills required, such as ski-ing, piano
- Additional tasks such as PA duties or Proxy-Parenting.
- Expectations (highly engaged pro-active nanny vs. the average – ‘just keeping your child safe nanny’)
- a VIP or UHNW household might also expect to pay a premium for the discretion, professionalism, and flexibility required in such environments.
So what is a normal rate of pay for a professional nanny? Is the person caring for and helping to bring up your children to be independent, kind, motivated achievers closer to a cleaner or to a lawyer?
Do they need to be completely responsible, reliable and set a good example? Are they degree educated?
And in terms of hourly rate, how does their rate compare to your cleaner at £17 per hour or to your lawyer at £350 per hour?
What do you think is a fair rate for the professional, hard-working nanny who could be looking after your precious children?
That’s food for thought! In the meantime, please see the table above as a general guide to nanny salaries in the UK, Europe and USA, for a professional or junior nanny and as a rota nanny working for VIP or UHNW family. Rates can of course be higher (or lower) depending on the circumstances.
If you would like to discuss what you should pay to your nanny, we’d love to hear from you. Of course the rates are nowhere near those of a lawyer!
